Ioana Weichelt  Violin Studio Policies

These policies are in place as a result of many years of teaching experience and help lessons run smoothly and easily. My students, their safety and their individual musical journeys are extremely important to me and I feel grateful to teach them and guide them.

Lessons & Materials

Please arrive a few minutes early to your lesson time, to ensure a prompt start. If the violin lesson takes place at home, please ensure all materials are ready and in place for the lesson. The violin lessons must run strictly to schedule, as a courtesy to other students of the studio.

All electronic devices must be turned off, as they present a huge distraction for both teacher and student. This includes the vibration setting on any devices.

The following elements are required for in home lessons:

  • Separate space for the lesson to be conducted; separate room with door preferred, but not required. Pets, siblings or other family members are best kept separate , to keep distractions away.
  • Music stand, metronome, music books

All students must have a music stand, a metronome, and all violin accessories required for playing and practicing at home.

Attendance

If the student is not able to attend a lesson, a 48-hour notice is required by email or phone. The studio does not assume any financial responsibility for a student’s absence. Monthly rates shall not be lowered nor refunded for missed lessons.

Due to my limited availability, makeup lessons cannot be guaranteed. However, if an absence arises due to unforeseen situations such as an accident or family emergency and if the student indicates a desire for a makeup lesson, I will make an effort to accommodate, if possible.

Teacher Cancellations Lessons cancelled by the teacher will be rescheduled at a mutually agreeable time or a full credit of the cancelled lesson will be issued towards next month’s tuition.

Tuition & Fees

Please note that enrollment in the studio requires a One Month Tuition Deposit, which will be credited to your last month of lessons. The deposit is due together with the first month tuition, after deciding on a lesson day/time.

*These  fees are based on weekly lessons, fees will vary for coachings or ad hoc lessons.*

Discontinuing Lessons

Every student stops taking lessons at some point. Ideally, this decision is made thoughtfully with plenty of discussion between the teacher, parent, and student so that lessons can cease with a positive sense of closure. Please note that your Tuition Deposit will only be credited towards tuition if one month’s notice is received to discontinue lessons.

On Practicing

Regular home practice is essential for student success. Ideally, students should aim for at least 5 days of practice each week. Short, daily practice sessions are more effective than one or two long sessions per week

The most important time for students to practice is right after their weekly lesson, to solidify what they have just learned. Please do not wait until the end of the week, then “cram” practice right before at your next lesson!

Parental involvement in home practice is crucial for student success. Please help your student to establish and stick to a practice routine and see that practice time is free of distractions. If you are the parent of an elementary age student, please plan to sit with your child for at least a portion of their daily practice time.

Communication

Communication through email, text or phone is encouraged for all my students and parents: in between lessons, for any questions or advice regarding practice, before the lesson if something has changed or happened. Anything that you think might affect your/your child’s state of mind or focus, I encourage you to convey to me, in order to ensure that lessons are productive and tailored to needs.
